REMEMBERING PAST LESSONS - God had brought the Israelites into the Promised Land and provided for them even though they had sinned - how often through their history had He warned them. How He had taught them that they might know the righteous acts of the LORD. By remembering these things, they could understand and have perspective on their lives. They might know what to do to receive His blessings and protection. And know the consequences of violating His Word. Going their own way, and ignoring His counsel. How often we might have similar questions - ask God to help you remember. Study His Word anew. Seek His face with an open, humble heart. Be ready to change. God’s people could not understand why they had so many problems. And why He seemed unhappy with them. As they looked for answers, He urged them to “plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.” If they did, they would learn that “the LORD has a case against His people.” He had a “dispute” with them. To understand why, they simply needed to remember their history. This would remind them how often He had saved them. How He sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to lead them out of bondage. They would remember how often they had been attacked. How Balak desired to curse them but how God had directed Balaam to pronounce blessings instead of curses. How He had taught them that they “might know the righteous acts of the LORD.”

“My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered him, and from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you might know the righteous acts of the LORD.” - Micah 6:5 NASB

God’s people could not understand why they had so many problems. And why He seemed unhappy with them.

As they looked for answers, He urged them to “plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.”

If they did, they would learn that “the LORD has a case against His people.”

He had a “dispute” with them.

To understand why, they simply needed to remember their history.

This would remind them how often He had saved them.

How He sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to lead them out of bondage.

How He had “ransomed” them.

They would remember how often they had been attacked.

How Balak desired to curse them but how God had directed Balaam to pronounce blessings instead of curses.

They would realize how God had brought them into the Promised Land and provided for them, even though they had sinned at Shittim (Numbers 21-25).

How often through their history had He warned them.

How He had taught them that they might know the righteous acts of the LORD.”

By remembering these things, they could understand and have perspective on their lives.

They might know what to do to receive His blessings and protection.

And know the consequences of violating His Word. Going their own way, and ignoring His counsel.

How often we might have similar questions.

To wonder why our prayers aren’t being answered.

Why we don’t seem to be receiving God’s blessings.

Why we can’t seem to find solutions to our problems.

If this happens to you, ask God to help you remember.

Study His Word anew.

Seek His face with an open, humble heart.

Be ready to change.

And remember His work in your life. That you might know.

Prayer

Father, thinking back, I remember the ways You have blessed me. I am reminded of Your Promises. Help me to please You. Forgive me of my sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
