FORGET THE PAST AND PRESS ON - “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Although Christians are called to be like Christ, we continue to make mistakes. We have not "arrived" yet. We fail. In fact, we'll never obtain complete sanctification until we stand before the Lord. But, God uses our imperfections to "grow us" in faith. We have a problem to deal with called "the flesh." Our flesh pulls us toward sin and away from the prize of the upward call. Our flesh keeps us painfully aware of our need to diligently press on toward the goal. The Apostle Paul was laser-focused on the race, the goal, the finish line. Like an Olympian runner, he would not look back at his failures. Now, remember, Paul was Saul who persecuted the church violently. He played a part in the stoning of Stephen, and he could have let guilt and shame cripple him for that. But Paul forgot the past. He didn't dwell on his sufferings, beatings, shipwrecks, and imprisonment. He looked forward resolutely toward the finish line where he would see the face of Jesus Christ. Paul knew that God alone was the source of his salvation as well as the source of his spiritual growth. The closer we get to completion, the more we realize how much further we have to go to become like Christ.

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 3:13–14 (ESV)

Although Christians are called to be like Christ, we continue to make mistakes.

We have not "arrived" yet. We fail.

In fact, we'll never obtain complete sanctification until we stand before the Lord.

But, God uses our imperfections to "grow us" in faith.

We have a problem to deal with called "the flesh."

Our flesh pulls us toward sin and away from the prize of the upward call.

The author of the book of Hebrews, possibly Paul, made a similar statement in Hebrews 12:1-2:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (NIV)

Paul knew that God alone was the source of his salvation as well as the source of his spiritual growth.

The closer we get to completion, the more we realize how much further we have to go to become like Christ.

So, be encouraged by Paul's emphasis here on forgetting the past and straining forward to what lies ahead.

Don't let yesterday's failures derail you from the goal of your upward call.

Press on for the prize until you meet the Lord Jesus at the finish line.

THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH - We don’t fight for salvation, but we do have a fight against the enemy (the forces of hell), against our flesh and the carnality of the world, and against those who would try to deceive or distract us. Distractions are both very worldly lost people and very religious lost people. It is a fight to live in this world. We are to be laying hold of our eternal life - the Lord Jesus won it for us, but we have to take it and we have to keep it. Knowing Jesus is a relationship with God - relationships require regular time together, knowing each other, and caring. We are accountable for everything we do while we are in our bodies. We are to come out of the world, not do the same things lost people do. We are to be separate, and we are to be clean. Life is a battle, it’s a fight, in fact, it’s a good fight that’s because we WIN! “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” The Bible talks about fighting the good fight of faith in 1 Timothy 6:12. A read of the passage is quite revealing. Followers of Jesus Christ are supposed to grab hold of salvation. We don’t fight for salvation, but we do have to receive Jesus. However, we do have a fight against the enemy (the forces of hell), against our flesh and the carnality of the world, and against those who would try to deceive or distract us. Distractions are both very worldly lost people and very religious lost people. It is a fight to live in this world.

The Good Fight Of Faith

What Is The Good Fight Of Faith In The Bible?

.

We don’t fight for salvation, but we do have a fight against the enemy (the forces of hell), against our flesh and the carnality of the world, and against those who would try to deceive or distract us. Distractions are both very worldly lost people and very religious lost people. It is a fight to live in this world. “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. - 1 Timothy 6:12 The New King James Version

The Bible talks about fighting the good fight of faith in 1 Timothy 6:12.

However, we are to be laying hold of our eternal life.

It’s there, the Lord Jesus won it for us, but we have to take it and we have to keep it.

Once Saved Always Saved?

There are those who teach that once a Christian is saved by accepting Jesus, they are always saved.

They have Bible verses they use to prove their point, but these folks have missed the point.

We must remember that knowing Jesus is a relationship with God, not a train ticket.

Relationships require regular time together, knowing each other, and caring.

We are accountable for everything we do while we are in our bodies.

We are told in 2 Corinthians 6:17 that followers of Jesus are supposed to come out of the world, not do the same things lost people do.

We are to be separate, and we are to be clean.

Why? So that God will accept us is what verse 17 tells us.

As a committed Christian, you must live each day walking by faith (Galatians 3:11).

Life is a battle, it’s a fight, in fact, it’s a good fight that’s because we WIN!

John lays it out brilliantly saying,

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” - 1 John 5:4-5

Faithpro.org is website dedicated to answering the questions of life with the Word of God by Spirit-filled followers of Jesus who not only work in ministry but are also business professionals. The Word of God is the Bible.  The Bible is God’s Word to you for living victoriously every day. Why are we called Faith Pro? Faith pro is short for “Faith Professional”. Translation, Bible believing Christian. When you walk in faith, you become stronger and stronger in your relationship with God.

Purpose
The purpose of FaithPro.org is to show people that God has answered all the questions of life in His Word which is the Bible.  A wise person once said, “The better you know the Word of God, the better you shall know the God of the Word”.

God Teaches You Through The Holy Spirit
We encourage you to ask for the Holy Spirit to teach you as you see the answers to the questions of life   on FP and look the scriptures up for yourself.   Also, remember Jesus said, that everything should be established by 2 or 3 witnesses.  That means, if you see it once, it is interesting.  If you see it more, then that is God speaking to you.  Doctrines based on one verse that loosely interpret that particular area will lead to spiritual shipwreck.

God bless you as you study, pray, and meditate the Word of God.
