FAITH IS… - Faith means knowing God is able to do all that He has promised. You may not understand how. You may not know where or when. It may seem utterly, completely impossible. But for all the things you do not know — for all the odds stacked against you — in faith, there is one thing you do know: “God is able, and He will deliver that which He has promised to you.” Knowing God Is Able - “God is able to do whatever He promises.” — Faith means knowing God is able to do all that He has promised. Which of God’s promises is most important to you and your faith right now? Write out a prayer of praise declaring that you know He is able to keep that promise in your life. “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” — God is love… and so faith in God must have love. It’s loving God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength. And it is accepting that God’s love for you is both endless and unconditional. Because God’s love for you gives you every reason to have faith, and your faith gives you every reason to show the world how much you love Him.

Knowing God Is Able

“God is able to do whatever He promises.” — Romans 4:21 

Faith means knowing God is able to do all that He has promised.

You may not understand how. You may not know where or when.

It may seem utterly, completely impossible.

But for all the things you do not know — for all the odds stacked against you — in faith, there is one thing you do know:

“God is able, and He will deliver that which He has promised to you.”

Begin a list of all that God has promised you — and add to it with each new promise you discover in His Word.

Begin with Psalm 121.

Which of God’s promises is most important to you and your faith right now?

Write out a prayer of praise declaring that you know He is able to keep that promise in your life.

Love

“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” — Galatians 5:6

God is love… and so faith in God must have love. It’s loving God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength (Mark 12:30).

And it is accepting that God’s love for you is both endless and unconditional (Romans 8:38-39).

Because God’s love for you gives you every reason to have faith, and your faith gives you every reason to show the world how much you love Him.

Why does God’s love for you give you every reason to put your faith in Him?

Does your faith express itself in love?

Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. Why do you believe the expression of love is so important to faith — your own and others’?

Taking God at His Word

“For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” — Luke 7:8

“Say the word, and my servant will be healed” (Luke 7:7).

Such was the faith of a humble Roman centurion, and his faith amazed even Jesus (Luke 7:9).

That man knew — what all those who put their faith in God know — that He is able to do all He has said He will do.

So when God says He will forgive and save, help and guide, love and protect…

Compare the faith of this centurion to the faith of Thomas in John 20:24-29.

Which one more resembles you and your faith?

Is there any area of your faith where you most struggle to take God at His word? Write out a prayer asking God to show you His faithfulness.

It is tempting to rush in a try to fix our problems completely forgetting that God is waiting to respond also. He sees the issue at hand far more clearly than ourselves and knows the best solution. Faith and action must be working together - we must do all that we can to fix the problem and then trust God to do His part. We do what we can, but He will do what He wills - and it will always be good - Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight. A fortnight into a trip across the Adriatic Sea, Paul and his travelers found themselves caught in a violent storm. In the midnight hour, as they approached land, the sailors feared they would be dashed against a rocky coast, so they dropped four anchors from the stern to halt the runaway ship and prayed to their gods. However, Paul alone was praying to the One God who could do anything about their situation. His actions are a good reminder to us to rely on God rather than our own wisdom or skills. However, we don’t do nothing in the midst of trouble either. There is always an action to take just as there are always prayers to pray. Faith and action must be working together. We must do all that we can to fix the problem and then trust God to do His part.

‘Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight.’ - Acts 27:29 (NIV).

A fortnight into a trip across the Adriatic Sea, Paul and his travelers found themselves caught in a violent storm.

In the midnight hour, as they approached land, the sailors feared they would be dashed against a rocky coast, so they dropped four anchors from the stern to halt the runaway ship and prayed to their gods.

However, Paul alone was praying to the One God who could do anything about their situation.

His actions are a good reminder to us to rely on God rather than our own wisdom or skills.

However, we don’t do nothing in the midst of trouble either. There is always an action to take just as there are always prayers to pray.

Faith and action must be working together. We must do all that we can to fix the problem and then trust God to do His part.

Paul commended the young Christians in Thessalonica for their ‘work produced by faith’ (1 Thessalonians 1:3).

He told the church in Galatia, ‘the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love’ (Galatians 5:6).

James said that ‘faith by itself, without works, is dead’ (James 2:17)

And Hebrews 11 offers a lengthy list of saints who combined their faith in God with loving actions and deeds.

Heavenly Father, forgive me for taking control and leaving you out of the issues that I face in life. Help me to do what I can and know that as I commit situations to you, you will do what you will. Thank you.

There is only one response to the problems that confront us in this life: faith and action working simultaneously as we do our best and wait for the best from God.

Where do we find ourselves just now?

In our trouble there is always a wise and gentle response awaiting from both ourselves and from God.

It is tempting to rush in a try to fix our problems completely forgetting that God is waiting to respond also.

He sees the issue at hand far more clearly than ourselves and knows the best solution.

We do what we can, but He will do what He wills.

And it will always be good.
