God told Solomon, "Ask for whatever you want," and Solomon's unselfish request for wisdom brought Solomon great favor, wealth and wisdom from God.” (1 Kings 3:5-15).

Fast Forward:
Solomon disobeys God's command against marrying foreign wives and God speaks to Solomon again saying these wives will lead to the demise of Solomon's faith and his
 earthly kingdom (1 Kings 11).

This time Solomon's answer is not recorded, but we know he didn't change. (1)

Scripture says, Solomon held fast to his wives in love (1 Kings 11:2).

He loved his foreign wives more than he loved God.

He had more wisdom than anyone on earth (1 Kings 10:23), yet his love for women made him a fool.

This is a powerful message to us.

Would we do wrong things to please ourselves or someone else - spouse, parents, children, boss, friends?

If we choose to love anyone or anything more than we love God and His commands, we may "enjoy" our lives, but we will surely ruin them.

I'm Gail Burton Purath. I started Bible Love Notes to give people a minute of Scriptural encouragement in their busy day.

I don't have all the answers, but

since I asked Christ to be my Lord and Savior in 1974, I've been learning from the One Who has all the answers!

I'm still a sinner, a learner, a student who falls down and disappoints God at times. But it's my desire to grow closer to the Lord, day by day, minute by minute.

I need to be challenged, encouraged, corrected and comforted, and I think you do as well...so let's learn together about the love of God--a love that is so vast that we will always be discovering new and wonderful things about it.

THE TRAGEDY OF A WASTED LIFE - Salvation is a free gift for those who trust in Jesus as the acceptable sacrifice for our sin. He is the only way – no excuses or even sincere beliefs in other "ways" will work - And Jesus promises that when believers die, they immediately find themselves in His presence - Death is inevitable, but at times it surprises us. The parable of the rich man is a warning about such situations. It tells of a man who acquired comfort and wealth but thought only of his time on earth. Death came without warning, and he could take nothing with him. God called him a fool for living focused on "self." Though rich in the world's eyes, the man had no relationship with God and hadn't invested anything in Christ's kingdom. All the treasures he stored here were worthless once he died. What's worse, without Jesus, he would be separated from God forever. What a tragic waste of life. If you were to die today, would you go to heaven? Salvation is a free gift for those who trust in Jesus as the acceptable sacrifice for our sin. He is the only way - no excuses or even sincere beliefs in other "ways" will work. And Jesus promises that when believers die, they immediately find themselves in His presence. What is your life accomplishing? Are you driven by selfish purposes, storing security and wealth for yourself? Or is your motivation to further God's kingdom?

15 And he said to them, ‘Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.’
16 And he told them a parable, saying, ‘The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’
18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’
20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” - Luke 12:15-21 English Standard Version

Death is inevitable, but at times it surprises us. Perhaps you know someone who died unexpectedly.
REX ALLEN -- WASTED YEARS (with Lyrics) - YouTubeToday's parable is a warning about such situations.
It tells of a man who acquired comfort and wealth but thought only of his time on earth.
Death came without warning, and he could take nothing with him. God called him a fool for living focused on "self."
Though rich in the world's eyes, the man had no relationship with God and hadn't invested anything in Christ's kingdom.
All the treasures he stored here were worthless once he died.
What's worse, without Jesus, he would be separated from God forever. What a tragic waste of life.
As I think about this person's choices, two questions come to mind that are important for all of us to contemplate.
49 Bible verses about WasteFirst, if you were to die today, would you go to heaven?
Salvation is a free gift for those who trust in Jesus as the acceptable sacrifice for our sin.
He is the only way -- no excuses or even sincere beliefs in other "ways" will work.
And Jesus promises that when believers die, they immediately find themselves in His presence (2 Corinthians 5:6).
Second, what is your life accomplishing? Are you driven by selfish purposes, storing security and wealth for yourself?
Or is your motivation to further God's kingdom?
Like the man in this parable, we don't know when we will die.
We do know, however, that death is inescapable.
Though dying is an unpleasant topic, eternity is a long time and worthy of our attention.
It's definitely a wise investment to make sure of your salvation and to invest in God's kingdom.

While his teaching is transmitted throughout the world to millions of people, Dr. Stanley has been said to demonstrate a practical, keen awareness of people's needs and provide Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.
Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”

TREES – THE BEAUTY AND THE WONDER - I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree. Be Like a Tree... A tree, though standing still and on a windless day with not even a rustling leaf is still erect and majestic - host to winged creatures that in the sky frolic. We can be like a tree by being still and patient - under a heavy burden in times of challenges, we should not waver but strive for success! Plant hobbyists know that the most beautiful miniature trees are found in high cliffs and rock mountains. These trees have endured the parched environment and strong winds and have developed tough and gnarled branches and stems and long root systems through the years. Whether we like it or not, everyone of us would have to undergo tests, trials and sufferings. Trees producing fruit, and the wood of which they are composed, are a testament to God’s creation: “Out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food” The beauty of creation clearly reveals a Creator to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. And beauty is closer to us than we often realize.

Trees

By Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
