OCCULT OBJECTS CAN GIVE DEMONS LEGAL GROUND - Idol-worship is a serious sin - the Bible equates idol worship with demon worship in Revelation 9:20. Witchcraft and sorcery are worthy of hell fire. Idols have no power in and of themselves but an idol can be cursed or have a demon attached to it. It is possible that an object can carry a certain spiritual oppression or presence along with it because of what it is attached to in the spirit - this spiritual oppression can cause a change of atmosphere in your house and attract nasty spiritual activity into your life - It is very common for people who were once involved in the occult to feel conviction from the Holy Spirit to throw out their occult object, books, and divination tools. The Bible is very clear that idol-worship is a serious sin, and that witchcraft and sorcery are worthy of hell fire. “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.“ Furthermore, the Bible equates idol worship with demon worship in Revelation 9:20, Leviticus 17:7, and Deuteronomy 32:17 where it reads: “THEY SACRIFICED TO DEMONS THAT WERE NO GODS, TO GODS THEY HAD NEVER KNOWN, TO NEW GODS THAT HAD COME RECENTLY, WHOM YOUR FATHERS HAD NEVER DREADED.” While the Bible is clear that idols have no power in and of themselves, it does not say that an idol cannot be cursed or have a principality attached to it.

It is very common for people who were once involved in the occult to feel conviction from the Holy Spirit to throw out their occult object, books, and divination tools.
I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.“ – Galatians 5:19-21
Furthermore, the Bible equates idol worship with demon worship in Revelation 9:20Leviticus 17:7, and Deuteronomy 32:17 where it reads:
“THEY SACRIFICED TO DEMONS THAT WERE NO GODS, TO GODS THEY HAD NEVER KNOWN, TO NEW GODS THAT HAD COME RECENTLY, WHOM YOUR FATHERS HAD NEVER DREADED.”

The idol has no will, ability to produce an effect, or independent power of its own (as it says in Jeremiah, Isaiah, etc.), but it is possible that an object can carry a certain spiritual oppression or presence along with it because of what it is attached to in the spirit.
We all know there is a different in spiritual nature between an alter used for child sacrifice to Molech, and a bag of potatoes.
One carries a spiritual oppression and attachment along with it because of the demons it is associated with, and one is neutral.
“NO, I IMPLY THAT WHAT PAGANS SACRIFICE THEY OFFER TO DEMONS AND NOT TO GOD. I DO NOT WANT YOU TO BE PARTICIPANTS WITH DEMONS.” – 1 CORINTHIANS 10:20
This spiritual oppression can cause a change of atmosphere in your house and attract nasty spiritual activity into your life, which may include some of the following things:
1. Oppression over a certain room in your house. A dead, hazy atmosphere.
2. Disturbances and activity in the spirit.
3. Foggy headedness and a cloudy mind.
4. Doublemindedness, an urge to go back into the occult.

I noticed that there was dark spiritual activity in my house after I got saved, and it was because my house with filled with New Age books and idols that I had not thrown out yet from when I was involved in the occult.
So, I put together a video recently talking a little bit more about occult objects, and giving a list of things that should be thrown out or burned:

AS SERIOUS AS WITCHCRAFT OR IDOL WORSHIP - We must guard our hearts against rebellion and stubbornness as seriously as we guard against witchcraft and idolatry - “Samuel rebuked King Saul for picking and choosing which of God's instructions he would follow. Saul stubbornly defended himself” - “Then Samuel said, ‘Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.’" Saul insincerely apologized, and God removed his anointing from Saul that day. Christians understand the serious nature of witchcraft and idol worship – but do we understand the serious nature of rebellion and stubbornness? Just as King Saul amended God's instructions to please his men, many professing Christians amend God's commands to please peers, culture, or their sinful desires. They argue their twisted views as stubbornly as Saul argued his. Culture promotes foul language, drunkenness, focus on outward appearance, materialism, premarital sex, homosexuality, transgenderism, and other evils. Professing Christians who defend any of these things are in stubborn rebellion against God and His Word. We must guard our hearts against rebellion and stubbornness as seriously as we guard against witchcraft and idolatry.

Despite the false teaching that God sees all sins exactly the same, Scripture tells us that some sins are more serious than others. This 1-minute devotion explains one of the worst. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

“Samuel rebuked King Saul for picking and choosing which of God's instructions he would follow. Saul stubbornly defended himself” (1 Samuel 15).
“Then Samuel said, ‘Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols’" (1 Samuel 15:23).

Saul insincerely apologized, and God removed his anointing from Saul that day.
Christians understand the serious nature of witchcraft and idol worship – but do we understand the serious nature of rebellion and stubbornness?
Just as King Saul amended God's instructions to please his men (1 Samuel 15:24), many professing Christians amend God's commands to please peers, culture, or their sinful desires.
Despite the false teaching that God sees all sins exactly the same, Scripture tells us that some sins are more serious than others. This 1-minute devotion explains one of the worst. #BibleLoveNotes #BibleThey argue their twisted views as stubbornly as Saul argued his.
Culture promotes foul language, drunkenness, focus on outward appearance, materialism, premarital sex, homosexuality, transgenderism, and other evils.

We must guard our hearts against rebellion and stubbornness as seriously as we guard against witchcraft and idolatry.
Note: This and other passages in Scripture tell us that God considers some sins more serious than others. Unfortunately, there is a false belief circulating among Christians that all sins are equal in God's eyes. Read what Scripture actually teaches about this subject: All Sins Are Not The Same

Additional Note: I hate bigotry. I've written about the evil of racism in multiple devotions. (e.g. God's View of RacismFlags or People)

The first two years this devotion was online, it featured two images of a white woman, and I didn't receive any negative feedback. When I edited this devotion, I used three new images, one of a black woman and the two still included of a white man. No one was offended by the use of the white male.
However, I received several comments about my prejudice in using the image of the black woman even though the title on the image was almost identical to that used with the white woman and the white man ("Beware: Scripture says this sin is a serious as witchcraft").
The title is a warning, not a mug shot, and I feel that the real prejudice is in the eye of the beholder, not in the image itself. I removed the image of the black woman, not because it was prejudiced, but because a few random souls perceived it as such. But I would like to point out that Christians are called to give each other the benefit of the doubt. Petty scrutiny and nit-picky criticism are not Christian qualities.

Hi!  I'm Gail Burton Purath. I started Bible Love Notes to give people a minute of Scriptural encouragement in their busy day.
I don't have all the answers, but
since I asked Christ to be my Lord and Savior in 1974, I've been learning from the One Who has all the answers!
I'm still a sinner, a learner, a student who falls down and disappoints God at times. But it's my desire to grow closer to the Lord, day by day, minute by minute.

I need to be challenged, encouraged, corrected and comforted, and I think you do as well...so let's learn together about the love of God--a love that is so vast that we will always be discovering new and wonderful things about it.
