HEROD THE TROUBLED KING - Do not allow the traditions of Christmas to turn into empty rituals. Let your birthday celebration be more than just a reminder of your faith. Let it testify to a dying world of the awesome sacrifice Jesus made. All the glory of heaven was His, yet He gave it up to come to earth for you and me. “When Herod the king heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.” - Every year the advent of the Christmas season heralds the reminders of what Jesus came to free us from. Greedy merchants vie for our time and our money. Church pews empty as shopping malls fill. Picketers are set in place before nativity scenes in public squares, demanding their rights and denying ours. Herod greedily welcomed the wise men, expecting a new avenue of commerce to advance his realm; but he grew troubled when he learned of their true mission. The spirit of the world is troubled at Christmas time, as believers gather to honor and worship the King. Do not allow the traditions of Christmas to turn into empty rituals. Let your birthday celebration be more than just a reminder of your faith. Let it testify to a dying world of the awesome sacrifice Jesus made. All the glory of heaven was His, yet He gave it up to come to earth for you and me. Herod could not surrender the throne of life to Jesus. He sought to destroy the true King of life. Will you surrender the throne of Your life to Christ?

The Troubled King

“When Herod the king heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.” - Matthew 2:3

Every year the advent of the Christmas season heralds the reminders of what Jesus came to free us from.

Jesus, rule, and reign victoriously in my life.

Make of my life a winsome witness to the world of Your love and grace.

Amen.

Rod Parsley has been clearly called to a pre-eminent position of leadership within the Body of Christ, as his numerous roles – including TV host, evangelist, educator, humanitarian and statesman – will attest. But he’d be the first to tell you that his prominence is solely a function of his willingness to be used by God in extraordinary ways.
He was 19 when he first led a Bible study in his parents’ backyard. In more than 40 years since then, he’s built one of the most important and far-reaching Christian ministries in the United States. He has founded and now leads outreaches with local, national and worldwide reaches.
This New York Times best-selling author has successfully advocated for federal legislation, delivered hundreds of millions of pounds of food and medical supplies to poverty-stricken areas of the world and changed the lives of thousands who will shape the cultural landscape in the next generation. He’s in constant demand to preach the Gospel in pulpits across America and around the world, and to comment publicly on the moral issues of our day. If none of those opportunities had ever presented themselves, though, he’d still be Pastor Parsley, sharing God’s Word with his beloved World Harvest Church, helping his congregation know God as he does.

SELF-DESTRUCTIVE POWER IN BUILDING MONUMENTS TO OURSELVES - In absolute arrogance and stupidity, the people of the plains of Babylonia set out to make a name for themselves. We have to remember that the middle of every sin and all pride is a capital "I" When Jesus came, he had all the glory of heaven, yet he gave it all up to serve us and bring us back to the Father. Finding My Story in God's Story

"He bruised both lungs. He had a collapse of the lung. He had multiple lacerations to his spleen, and he had a pelvic fracture," said Joseph Darryl Amos, the chief of trauma at Dallas Methodist Medical Center.
I feel more comfortable referring to this story now that we know Triston is going to be fine.
That wasn’t always true. He had wanted to take the selfie of all selfies on top of a beautiful bridge with the Dallas, Texas, skyline in the background.
He plunged 50 feet before he crash-landed on the ground.
Fortunately, unlike hundreds who have died trying to take selfies, Triston survived and has made a tremendous recovery.
Why would so many people risk so much for a picture?
Most want hundreds, even thousands, of “likes” on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
The same flawed reasoning that drives people to do dumb, embarrassing, and dangerous things to get on television, also drives people to risk their lives for a moment of fleeting fame.
Some warped and insatiable force inside us as people makes many of us want to be more, to have more, and to be known more, than other normal people.
That warped and insatiable force is pride. James Nored talks about this kind of foolish pride in today’s video:
If you can't see the video, and you sure don't want to miss it, view it online. For additional ideas to consider and some things to discuss with others, we encourage you to look at the Study Guide.
As the people of Babel, and Triston, can tell you, pride goes before destruction, or at least near destruction — see Proverbs 16:18.
The Message paraphrases this important truth with these clear words:
First pride, then the crash — the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.
The Bible repeatedly warns us against pride and exalting ourselves above others.
In the early chapters of Genesis, humanity plunged into greater and greater evil as it moved away from any meaningful relationship with God.
Then God stopped them. He confused their language. Their pride was gone in the chaos of not being able to understand each other.
In the grand scheme of God’s plan, however, the scattering of people at Babel may have been less of a punishment and more an act of saving them from themselves.
Rebellion, blaming, murdering, evil, and violence had run rampant and had destroyed almost everything of value for humanity.
In absolute arrogance and stupidity — notice the Bible's biting irony about building a tall building with bricks and tar (Genesis 11:3) — the people of the plains of Babylonia had tried to make a name for themselves.
They had wanted to ascend to the heavens to impress and be equal with God (Genesis 11:1-4).
God, however, had come down to their meager (by heaven's standards) building project and scattered the arrogant by confusing their language (Genesis 11:5-9).
Much like war, erosion, and destruction have buried the great buildings of the past under rubble, sand and jungle overgrowth, the tower of Babel was buried under the rubble of human confusion because of pride.
In looking at this story again, the Holy Spirit sure seems to be nudging us to ask a question we often have chosen not to consider because we don’t want to face the truth it reveals:
How many times has the Lord saved us, saved me, from a worse fate, an even more destructive outcome, by letting us, and yes, me, fail because of our pride?
Hum? That question feels a little too convicting, doesn’t it!
However, we can’t dodge it. Most of us haven’t plunged to life-altering endings while trying to take a selfie that might make us famous.
Most of us, on the other hand, have done other idiotic things trying to make ourselves feel important.
Instead of trusting our role in the world and serving others, we use all sorts of spiritual-sounding "phony-baloney" to explain why we want to exalt ourselves:
I just want to do something great for God.
I want to make a difference in this world by doing something impressive for the kingdom.
Surely, God wants me (or us) to build a great church to honor him and reach people.
Yes, some people with great hearts and servant lives have said similarly sounding things.
However, we must be careful not to let pride and sin enter into our hearts and steal away our servant hearts and desires to honor Jesus truly.
We have to remember that the middle of every sin and all pride is a capital "I"!
Thankfully, God saved us from ourselves with some humbling embarrassment with our bumbling failures.
So, let's make the lessons of Babel personal. What about you?
How has pride caused you to stumble and embarrass yourself in the past?
How has God saved you from yourself and your pride by allowing you to fail?
Do you think the confusion of language and the scattering of people at Babel was more about punishing or more about God preventing something worse happening — like their structure collapsing or the city becoming a concentration of evil and violence?
We have to remember that the middle of every sin and all pride is a capital "I"!
When Jesus came, he had all the glory of heaven, yet he gave it all up to serve us and bring us back to the Father.
He gave up everything, yet God gave him all the glory — not because he sought fame, but because he surrendered himself to serve.
Now, God calls us to follow in Jesus’ steps:
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to
“Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
“When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
“Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.” – (Philippians 2:5-11)
Let’s encourage each other to serve one another and the lost and broken of our world.
Let’s trust God to help us find true greatness in Jesus’ way of life.
We hope you will continue to join us in seeking God and serving people as we journey together to find our story in God’s story of redemption.
Jesus said to [his disciples], “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves" - (Luke 22:25-26).

BACK FROM A DEAD END - As we go through life, the cares of this world and our desire for things can take us down a wrong road. Our desires battle with our convictions, and if we are not careful, we start going down a path of compromise — a path that leads to a dead end. If you find yourself at a dead end in some area of your life, there is hope - It doesn’t matter how you got there. You can become the kind of person who is humble and faithful, one who has an excellent spirit. Receive God’s forgiveness and grace - depend on God and you will find the way out of any dead-end road - An excellent spirit is faithful and consistent. It has a moral foundation that doesn’t fluctuate or compromise. It does what is right. Even a champion of faith like Ms. Kuhlman is only such because of God’s forgiveness and amazing grace. “The sun was flickering through the great limbs that stretched out overhead. At the end of the block I saw a street sign. “It said simply, ‘Dead End.’ “There was heartache, heartache so great it cannot be put into words.” - Kathryn Kuhlman - She had to face the truth: she had compromised her integrity and her ministry. She was trying to get something but lost everything. It’s not hard to identify with her regret. As we go through life, the cares of this world and our desire for things can take us down a wrong road. “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions”

“An excellent spirit is faithful and consistent. It has a moral foundation that doesn’t fluctuate or compromise. It does what
is right.”
- Andrew Wommack

There is a wooden chair displayed at the Andrew Wommack Ministries headquarters in Colorado Springs.
This keepsake was used during Kathryn Kuhlman’s crusades decades ago.
Andrew talks of his experience attending Ms. Kuhlman’s meetings as something that helped him break out of his religious background.
He says, “I remember serving as an usher in her meetings. I saw some of the most astounding miracles I’ve ever witnessed in my life. Her message encouraged me to see beyond my limitations and to pursue the call of God on my life.”
Report from the Florida Zone: Dead EndMs. Kuhlman had a tremendous impact on Andrew and countless others.
But even a champion of faith like Ms. Kuhlman is only such because of God’s forgiveness and amazing grace.
The following tells the story of how God brought her back from the brink and how He can do the same for us.
“The sun was flickering through the great limbs that stretched out overhead. At the end of the block I saw a street sign.
“It said simply, ‘Dead End.’
“There was heartache, heartache so great it cannot be put into words.” - Kathryn Kuhlman
How did Kathryn, a mighty woman of God, get here? She compromised her convictions.
8 Route 66 Dead End Photos - Free & Royalty-Free Stock Photos from ...When Kathryn met Burroughs A. Waltrip, an evangelist from Austin, Texas, he was already married with two sons.
However, she fell in love with him anyway.
Opening her heart to a friend, Kathryn said, “I loved him more than I loved life itself.”
Waltrip eventually divorced his wife, and on October 18, 1938, he and Kathryn were married at Radio Chapel in Mason City.
It wasn’t long after when Kathryn began to realize the marriage was a mistake.
She had to face the truth: she had compromised her integrity and her ministry. She was trying to get something but lost everything.
It’s not hard to identify with her regret.
As we go through life, the cares of this world and our desire for things can take us down a wrong road.
James 4:3 says, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions” (English Standard Version).
Our desires battle with our convictions, and if we are not careful, we start going down a path of compromise — a path that leads to a dead end.
In his teaching Excellence: How to Pursue an Excellent Spirit, Andrew explains, “Whatever you compromise to get or to keep . . . you’ll eventually lose.”
He also says, “God wants to help us in every area of our lives. He desires for each of us to experience the good things He has for us. But the only way to do that is to ‘seek first His kingdom,’ like Luke 12:31 says. We have to choose to do things God’s way.”
In a heartfelt confession, Kathryn said, “I had come to the place in my life where I was ready to give up everything.”
Finally, Kathryn cried, “Dear Jesus, I surrender all, I give it all to You.”
Her life became like a grain of wheat that fell into the earth and died.
But God resurrected her ministry, giving her a new beginning.
Her ministry grew, and God performed countless miracles through her.
She helped the body of Christ to understand the importance of a more intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Like Kathryn did, we need to receive God’s forgiveness and grace.
If you find yourself at a dead end in some area of your life, there is hope!
It doesn’t matter how you got there. You can become the kind of person who is humble and faithful, one who has an excellent spirit.
As you learn to depend on God, you won’t go down the road of compromise, and you will find the way out of any dead-end road.

WHEN GOD WRITES YOUR LOVE STORY - Surrender your love life completely to Jesus Christ! God’s way of building a relationship is perfect! Remember that choosing God’s way always leads to victory and joy, even if the outcome is different from what we always hoped for. If you are struggling with disappointment, disillusionment, or impatience in this or any other area of your life, ask God to replace your desires with His desires - only when we delight in Him can our desires become purified and fulfilled by the One who created us and cares more about us than we could ever imagine - “As for God, his way is perfect”. In a desperate attempt to find the man of my dreams, I flitted from one relationship to the next, allowing my heart to be trampled time and time again. I gave myself emotionally and even physically to one guy after another. Even though I managed to keep my abstinence commitment and even though I dated mostly “Christian” guys, I knew that something wasn’t right in this area of my life. I hadn’t crossed certain physical lines, but I still felt guilty and impure. I was giving away far more of my heart, mind, emotions, and body than I knew was right. I felt dirty, used, and miserable. I wondered why God kept allowing me to get my heart broken again and again. Little did I realize what amazing, beautiful, life-altering plans my Creator had for me, if only I would entrust the pen to Him and let Him write my story.

Revive Our Hearts

“As for God, his way is perfect” - (Psalm 18:30).

During most of my single years, I was on a desperate search for true love.
I was convinced that if I could only find the right guy (you know, that knight in shining armor we all dream of), I would finally be happy and fulfilled.
Despite my fairy-tale ideals, dating around was not the romantic experience I’d always imagined it would be.
Psalm 18:30 | Dr. J's Apothecary ShoppeIn a desperate attempt to find the man of my dreams, I flitted from one relationship to the next, allowing my heart to be trampled time and time again. I gave myself emotionally and even physically to one guy after another.

I hadn’t crossed certain physical lines, but I still felt guilty and impure.
I was giving away far more of my heart, mind, emotions, and body than I knew was right. I felt dirty, used, and miserable.
What the Psalms Teach About Trusting God — Dawn KlingeI wondered why God kept allowing me to get my heart broken again and again.
Little did I realize what amazing, beautiful, life-altering plans my Creator had for me, if only I would entrust the pen to Him and let Him write my story.
When I finally made the difficult decision to surrender my love life completely to Jesus Christ, I was truly in awe of what happened.
I had never thought of God as a romantic.
But never have I experienced such beauty and romance as when God was at the center of my love life.
It only makes sense, when you stop and think about it.
God is the Creator of love and romance. Marriage was His idea in the first place.
What better Matchmaker could we ever find than the One who created us and cares more about us than we can comprehend?
Psalm 18:30 says, “God’s way is perfect.”
When I turned this sacred area of my life over to Him, the words of this Scripture were proven absolutely true!
At first glance, God’s pattern might seem anything but “perfect.”
That’s because His way is completely opposite of the sensual, self-gratifying trends of the culture.
Following His pattern requires sacrifice, surrender, and patience.
Before we can truly grasp the perfection of His ways, we must first exchange our desires for His desires.
Yet once He becomes our focal point, we begin to truly take delight in the heavenly brilliance of His pattern.
Cally Quilt Plus: Psalm 18:30When God builds a relationship, purity is not scorned; it is highly regarded.
Parents and siblings are not ostracized; they are honored.
Romance is not rushed; it is carefully cultivated.
And sacred words aren’t casually expressed; they are saved for sacred moments.
There is no question that God’s way is not the easy way.
But it is far more beautiful and infinitely more fulfilling than any shallow, pleasure-seeking, self-built relationship ever could be.
God’s way of building a relationship is perfect.
Though following His way does not provide instant gratification or satisfy our selfish wants, the beauty of His amazing pattern is truly beyond compare.
Only those who have fully surrendered to Him can truly comprehend this reality.
Recently I was able to watch the beautiful, new, Christian film Princess Cut. Here’s a sneak peek:
Bible Verse – Psalm 18:30 « Our Daily BlossomThe movie captures the principle of Psalm 18:30 so well, effectively showcasing the reality that God does indeed give His very best to those who leave the choice to Him.
Watching this movie was like a walk down memory lane for me.
The story caused me to relive the extraordinary, challenging, and thrilling adventure of what God did in my own life twenty years ago.
After two decades of married life, I was reminded of why my life, marriage, and family have had such an undergirding grace, it all began with that critical decision to let God write my love story.
