THE WICKED ARE LIKE CHAFF THAT THE WIND BLOWS AWAY - Chaff is the rubbish that needed to be discarded during harvest time. Chaff describes the hopeless state of the wicked. The grain is tossed into the air with winnowing forks, so that the wind which blew in the afternoons, blew away the straw and the chaff, leaving the grain at the winnower’s feet. Wickedness, is worthless, with no future, of no substance - chaff is carried away by the lightest wind, any ripple will rock you if you carry wickedness in your heart - ‘Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away…’ The extreme contrasts found between the first 3 verses of the first Psalm and the last 3 verses are a confronting reminder of the realities of living life with’IN’ Christ… or withOUT Christ. Verse 4… uses CHAFF to describe the hopeless state of the wicked. Chaff… is the ‘rubbish’ that needed to be discarded during harvest time. Harvesting grain (barley and wheat) in ancient Canaan involved these steps. Wickedness, is described here as worthless, with no future, of no substance but if left unattended to has the ability to cover the valuable grain within. The Psalm stresses the need to flee, run away, from any form of wickedness, as it will destroy your future. Chaff is carried away by the lightest wind, any ripple will rock you if you carry wickedness in your heart. To be rid of Chaff, there is a cleansing process that must take place.

‘Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away…’ - PSALM 1:4

Winnowing - WikipediaThe extreme contrasts found between the first 3 verses of the first Psalm and the last 3 verses are a confronting reminder of the realities of living life with’IN’ Christ… or withOUT Christ.
Verse 4… uses CHAFF to describe the hopeless state of the wicked.
Lets talk about CHAFF!!
Chaff… is the ‘rubbish’ that needed to be discarded during harvest time.
Threshing, Winnowing, Hand-Picking | Class 6, Separation of SubstancesHarvesting grain (barley and wheat) in ancient Canaan involved these steps..
– cutting grain with hand sickles– binding the grain into sheaves
.
– gleaning, gathering left over stalks
– transporting the sheaves by donkey or cart to the threshing floor
– the loosening of grain from the straw – usually done by cattle…
* MAIN POINT
– winnowing… (tossing the grain into the air with winnowing forks, so that the wind which blew in the afternoons, BLEW away the straw and the CHAFF, leaving the grain (INCOME, LIVELIHOOD, FUTURE!!) at the winnower’s feet.
Such a Time as This: Chaff Driven by the Wind (Psalm 1:4-6)Wickedness, is described here as worthless, with no future, of no substance, etc… BUT
If left unattended to… has the ability to COVER the valuable grain within.
The Psalm stresses the need to flee, run away, from any form of wickedness, as it will destroy your future.
CHAFF is carried away by the lightest wind, (any ripple will rock you) if you carry wickedness in your heart.
Notice, that to be rid of Chaff, there is a cleansing process that must take place.
Psalm 24:4 says… ‘Who may ascend the hill of the Lord, who may stand in His holy place? He who has CLEAN HANDS and a PURE HEART!!’
Pureness is a process…
Message Bible… ‘You’re not at all like the wicked, who are mere windblown dust – Without defense in court, unfit company for innocent people.’
Psalm 1 Archives - Do Not Depart* Give an example of how strife, challenge, etc. has allowed the chaff to be removed from your life, and made your heart stronger!!
Be blessed!

PLEASE HANG IN THERE - Jesus could stop all the chaos in your life right now, but here is why He will not: Jesus loves you. He loves you enough to allow you to be refined - we can only be refined when trials come - we will sin until God calls us home. God loves you and desires that your faith will not waiver even though your circumstances may tell a different story. Your circumstances do not dictate the way you are living your Christian life - that doesn’t mean that God will not reveal to you something miraculous out of the pain and defeat - “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.” Many of us have been beaten up by the world and the schemes of the devil. We have been beaten up so much that we can start believing lies that we aren’t good enough, that we have to pass more tests - that we will never get past the next test because we have failed this one so many times. It isn’t about passing the test; it is about staying in the faith whether you have passed the test or not. We can only be refined when trials come. It isn’t if we fail, it is when. It isn’t just one time, but thousands of times we fail. We have some weird notion that we need to be perfect to enter the kingdom of heaven. We will sin until God calls us home. Satan wants you to give up. PLEASE hang in there.

MY FRIENDS, SATAN WANTS TO SIFT US AS WHEAT BUT JESUS IS PRAYING ...

Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.” - Luke 22:31-32(NLT)

If Jesus said to me, “Brad, Brad, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.”
Sifted – when God goes silent (and things go nutty) | Faith + Hope ...I would be thinking, “Jesus, I don’t want to be sifted. Stop Satan from this sifting stuff. I have been sifted too many times already.”
Jesus makes no offer to help; only that Simon’s faith may not fail and then when he has turned back, he can strengthen his brothers.
Many of us have been beaten up by the world and the schemes of the devil.
We have been beaten up so much that we can start believing lies that we aren’t good enough, that we have to pass more tests - that we will never get past the next test because we have failed this one so many times.
The Lord impressed this thought upon me:
Sifted As Wheat Is A Powerful Kingdom Process - Truth Immutable“It isn’t about passing the test; it is about staying in the faith whether you have passed the test or not.”
We beat ourselves up when we fail.
We look lustfully at a person and beat ourselves up the rest of the day and make everyone else miserable.
We can’t stop an addiction and we think God will never forgive us, so we give up trying.
Our kids aren’t turning out as we planned and we think that we have done something wrong.
We keep being passed over for a promotion and we feel that we are not faithful enough in Gods eyes to get the blessing to move forward.
STOP!!!
Jesus could stop all the chaos in your life right now, but here is why He will not: Jesus loves you.
He loves you enough to allow you to be refined.
stylos: The Vision (7.24.14): But I have prayed for thee....We can only be refined when trials come.

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” - Romans 3:23 NLT
We will sin until God calls us home.
The most important statement that Jesus says to Simon (Peter) is, “That your faith may not fail.”
