SWEET WORDS - God’s words are like sweet honey that is delicious to savor and satisfying enough to fill us. God’s laws are guidelines that offer a light upon the path for our feet and illuminate our hearts and minds to know the right direction in which to travel. God’s word not only makes us stronger in our faith, but also its wisdom will sweeten our daily life. Consider what words from Scripture might bring sweet encouragement and hope to those who are hurting, confused or lonely. ‘Then he said to me, “So O man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.’ - We often think that laws, precepts and commands are dry, dusty, and irrelevant rules that keep us from having fun. But this is not so. God’s words revive us, make us wise, give joy to our heart, light to our eyes, warn us and reward us. In essence, they are like sweet honey that is delicious to savor and satisfying enough to fill us. God’s laws are guidelines that offer a light upon the path for our feet and illuminate our hearts and minds to know the right direction in which to travel. Ezekiel ate God’s message (literally) and found this spiritual food not only good for himself, but also as sweet as honey, bringing joy and delight to the heart. When we digest God’s word every day we will find that it not only makes us stronger in our faith, but also its wisdom will sweeten our daily life. We need to digest His Word often to enjoy the benefits it brings.

"Then he said to me, 'So O man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.' So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth." - Ezekiel 3:3 (NIV).

We often think that laws, precepts and commands are dry, dusty, and irrelevant rules that keep us from having fun.

Ezekiel ate God’s message (literally) and found this spiritual food not only good for himself, but also as sweet as honey, bringing joy and delight to the heart (Jeremiah 15:16).

When we digest God’s word every day we will find that it not only makes us stronger in our faith, but also its wisdom will sweeten our daily life.

We need to digest His Word often to enjoy the benefits it brings.

We cannot afford to give Scripture just a cursory glance, and why would we want to when there is such joy and sweet delight waiting to be savored in it?

Prayer:

‘Dear Lord, thank you for your precious words which fill me with joy and delight. Show me how I can share them with those who need encouragement today.’

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!

Final Thoughts:

Ezekiel ate and then shared.

God said to him, “Son of man, go now to the house of Israel and speak my words to them.” (Ezekiel 3:4).

Our instructions are no different.

After we have enjoyed the sweetness of God’s word, we are to share its content with others, so they too can savor its goodness.

Where is God presenting opportunity for us to share His words with others?

Consider what words from Scripture might bring sweet encouragement and hope to those who are hurting, confused or lonely.

Let the Spirit guide our words so that others may also taste and see that the Lord is good.

Be Greatly Blessed!

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT - If we fill our minds with God's wisdom and truth, our thoughts become wise and eventually our actions do too. When it comes to our spirits, we become like the things we “eat.”

If we fill our minds with “cultural junk food” or false teachings about Scripture, our thoughts become confused and ungodly.

And this eventually affects our actions.

If we fill our minds with God's wisdom and truth, our thoughts become wise and eventually our actions do too.

That’s why Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

That’s why the Psalmist said, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103)

That’s why David said, “Taste and see that the LORD is good,” because His decrees “are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb” (Psalm 34:8; Psalm 19:10).

“Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” Proverbs 24:14

Perhaps Jeremiah put it most deliciously: “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.” Jeremiah 15:16

Let's feast on God's Word!

🍓 Did you know that Bible Love Notes has a whole collection of Scriptures and 1-minute devotions based on food analogies? Check it out here: Food for Thought. Why not go through it with your small group or Bible study?

Hi!  I'm Gail Burton Purath. I started Bible Love Notes to give people a minute of Scriptural encouragement in their busy day.

I don't have all the answers, but since I asked Christ to be my Lord and Savior in 1974, I've been learning from the One Who has all the answers!

I'm still a sinner, a learner, a student who falls down and disappoints God at times. But it's my desire to grow closer to the Lord, day by day, minute by minute.

I need to be challenged, encouraged, corrected and comforted, and I think you do as well...so let's learn together about the love of God--a love that is so vast that we will always be discovering new and wonderful things about it.

Some Personal stuff:

I married my best friend Michael in 1970.

We have a grown son and daughter and 7 delightful grandchildren.

I've been a student of the Bible for 40 years

I'm a former Army wife, former homeschooler, and former missionary to Budapest, Hungary

I was born in Colorado, but I'm a "nomad" having moved about 40 times in my life!

I never graduated from college, but I have a Masters in Discipleship and Evangelism from seminary.
