Understanding the Holy Ghost: The Anointing Makes a Difference – Path of Righteousness Church in Christ, IncIn the Bible we see God using anointing oil to symbolize the anointing.
Do we ever need a fresh anointing?
It's true that we need an oil change in our cars. Is it any different for us?
Does the anointing of the Holy Spirit even matter?
It seems to be one of those terms that was common to hear but has lost some of its popularity.
Did you know that without the anointing of the Spirit, Jesus was not able to perform a single miracle?
We do hear a lot about the presence of God these days. Amen to that!
I love the presence of God. But there really is a difference between God's presence and God's power. They are not the same.
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him" - (Acts 10:38, MEV).
Looking at the Greek word for anointing, we get the exact idea of what is given:
g5548. chriō, meaning  to smear or to rub with oil or consecrate to an office or religious service: to anoint consecrating Jesus to the Messianic office, and furnishing Him with the necessary powers for its administration enduing Christians with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
We see the O.T. use of anointing for consecration to the office of "king" or a particular service.
In addition, we see the "power" aspect integrated into the meaning of being anointed with the manifestation of gifts of God by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was led out by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil, then came back in the power of the Spirit.
In other words, He had the Holy Spirit before He went out to the desert, but He came back with power.
Jesus was commissioned and anointed for a purpose. The anointing is to fulfill a specific purpose of God.
As believers, we all have been chosen and anointed by God for a purpose.
When God puts His anointing on us, there is a reason.
The New Testament is the first time we see the word anointing used in the context of power to heal, deliver and perform miracles.
4. Baptism with God's Holy Spirit – The only Biblical FoundationThe Holy Spirit is given to all believers. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is where God's power is released in our lives.
We do see pictures of two people anointed to be king in the Old Testament, Saul and David.
From their lives we can extract pictures of two completely different types of people anointed by God.
Saul represents the person who had the outward anointing without any inward devotion.
David represents a person who not only has the anointing to rule but has the inward devotion.
The kingdom of the Messiah (Jesus) being established on the throne of David, as read in the book of Isaiah, is the life we want to model.
The Joy of God
Another particular element we see in the anointing is that joy is closely associated with it.
"NO SERÁ POR LA FUERZA NI POR NINGÚN PODER, SINO POR MI ESPÍRITU" POR J. REED.Because of the heavenly aspect of the glory and power of God's anointing, there is the freedom that comes with it.
The anointing breaks "heavy yokes," bringing joy and freedom to people.
Spiritual chains are broken, fear, condemnation, shame and all the work of the enemy is destroyed by the anointing.
We see this purpose of the anointing outlined in this passage:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to preach the acceptable year of the Lord" - (Luke 4:18-19, MEV).
Where there is freedom, there is joy!
Where there is no freedom, there is no joy.
It is that simple. It can be all too easy to get laden down with a spirit of heaviness, especially in religious circles.
This is an opportunity to use the weapon of worship to access the anointing that breaks these heavy yokes.
In Isaiah we are told to put on the "garment of praise" for the "spirit of heaviness."
In other words, our worship has the ability to access the anointing of God to break that yokes of the devil.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." ~ Acts 2:38With the Holy Spirit inside of us we have an even more powerful dynamic at work because we can break from the "inside-out."
It is a matter of accessing "Christ," the Anointed One or the anointing, in us "the hope of glory."
The hope of glory means in hope or the purpose of His indwelling is that we might partake now in the state of heaven on Earth, "the glorious condition of blessedness, brightness and absolute perfection."
Just as Jesus taught us to pray, "His kingdom come on Earth as it is in heaven," we see how the Spirit inside of us enables us to partake of this reality.
"The seventy returned with joy, saying, 'Lord, even the demons are subject to us through Your name.' He said to them, 'I saw Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Look, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. And nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice that your names are written in heaven.' At that time Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, 'I thank You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for it was Your good pleasure'" - (Luke 10:17-21, MEV).
Jesus had given the 70 power over demons, and they came back rejoicing because it is the natural result of casting out darkness.
VEN ESPÍRITU DIVINO, PADRE AMOROSO DEL POBRE, FUENTE DEL MAYOR CONSUELO. VEN A ENJUGAR NUESTRAS LÁGRIMAS, Y RECONFÓRTANOS EN EL DUELO. ENTRA AL FONDO DE MI ALMA Y SANA MI CORAZÓN ENFERMO. LAVA NUESTROS PECADOS, Y GUÍA NUESTROS PASOS POR EL RECTO SENDERO.DANOS TUS DONES SAGRADOS, Y QUE TU DIVINA GRACIA NOS REGALE EL DESCANSO ETERNO. AMÉNWhere the devil is gone, there is great joy.
Even Jesus rejoiced in this life of victory that they were experiencing. When Jesus rejoiced it means that He "leaped or jumped" for joy.
g0021. γαλλιάω agalliaō; from γαν agan (much) and 242; properly, to jump for joy, i. e. exult: be (exceeding) glad, with exceeding joy, rejoice.
They were experiencing a little heaven on Earth.
We need to understand that the devil is very depressed. That is who he is.
He was cast out of heaven and his future is the lake of fire, which is very depressing news for him.
In Christ we have the best of the best, a future, a hope and something to be really happy about!
"You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions" - (Hebrews 1:9, MEV).
Jesus was anointed with the "oil of gladness" far above all His companions.
All Jesus has is good news! His news is not sadness, but gladness.
Get around Jesus and your condition will change from sad to glad because that is Who He is.
Jesus is the ultimate Medicine, the Great Physician, the glory and the lifter of your head.

In 1 Kings 7:23 there is an intriguing statement: And he [Hiram on behalf of King Solomon] made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.’
Διακόσμηση Φροντιστηρίων - Αυτοκόλλητο Τοίχου "π" Wallsticker pi - Math decalsA similar account is given in the parallel passage in 2 Chronicles 4:2.
From time to time sceptics have used these verses to ridicule the accuracy of the Bible by claiming that, if one uses the figures stated, the circumference of the vessel divided by its diameter gives 3.0, instead of the value pi π, 3.14159…).1
Closer examination shows there are at least two possible explanations.
1.The first concerns the meaning of the word cubit, and how it would have been used in measuring the vessel.
A cubit was the length of a man’s forearm from the elbow to the extended fingertips.
The Hebrew cubit was about 45 centimetres (18 inches).
It is obvious that a man’ forearm does not readily lend itself to the measurement of fractions of a forearm.
In the Bible half a cubit is mentioned several times, but there is no mention of a third part of a cubit or a fourth part of a cubit, even though these fractions of ‘a third part’ and ‘a fourth part’ were used in volume and weight measurements.2
It therefore seems highly probable that any measurement of more than half a cubit would have been counted as a full cubit, and any measurement of less than half a cubit would have been rounded down to the nearest full cubit.
What Is Pi? | Live ScienceFrom 1 Kings 7:23 (‘a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about’), it appears that the circumference was measured with ‘a line’, i.e. a piece of string or cord on which the distance was marked, and this length would then have been measured off in cubits by the measurer, using his own or someone else’s forearm, or possibly a cubit-long rod.
Similarly, the diameter would have been marked on a line and ‘cubitized’ in the same way.
If the actual diameter was 9.65 cubits, for example, this would have been reckoned as 10 cubits.
The actual circumference would then have been 30.32 cubits. This would have been reckoned as 30 cubits (9.6 cubits diameter gives 30.14 circumference, and so on).
The ratio of true circumference to true diameter would then have been 30.32÷ 9.65 = 3.14, the true value for pi, even though the measured value (i.e. to the nearest cubit) was 30 ÷ 10 = 3.
While the above seems reasonable, and the Ask ‘Dr Math’ Forum agrees that there is no error in the Bible here, we have no way of knowing for certain whether the measurements were approximated in this way.
However, even if it is assumed that the measurements given were precisely 10 and 30 cubits, the following appears to provide a definitive answer.
2.Verse 26 of 1 Kings 7 says that the vessel in question had a brim which ‘was wrought like the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies’ (KJV), or a rim ‘like the rim of a cup, like a lily blossom’ (NIV), i.e. the brim or rim turned outward, suggesting the curvature of a lily.3
It is believed by Bible scholars to have looked like the drawing below.4

Let us consider the details given in 1 Kings 7:23 and 2 Chronicles 4:2. These are:
1.The diameter of 10 cubits was measured ‘from brim to brim’ (verse 23), i.e. from the topmost point of the brim on one side to the topmost point of the brim on the other side (points A and B in the diagram).
2.The circumference of 30 cubits was measured with a line, ‘round about’ (verse 23), i.e. the most natural meaning of these words is that they refer to the circumference of the outside of the main body of the tank, measured by a string pulled tightly around the vessel below the brim.
Does the Bible Teach that Pi = 3? : Strange NotionsIt is very obvious that the diameter of the main body of the tank was less than the diameter of the top of the brim.
And it is also obvious that the circumference of 30 cubits could have been measured at any point down the vertical sides of the vessel, below the brim.
For a measured circumference of 30 cubits, we can calculate what the external diameter of the vessel would have been at that point from the formula:
diameter =
circumference ÷ pi
=
30 cubits ÷ 3.14
=
9.55 cubits.
Thus, the external diameter of the vessel at the point where the circumference was measured must have been 9.55 cubits.5
It is thus abundantly clear that the Bible does not defy geometry with regard to the value of pi, and in particular it does not say that pi equals 3.0.
.
Skeptics who allege an inaccuracy are wrong, because they fail to take into account all the data.
The Bible is reliable, and seeming discrepancies vanish on closer examination.
References and notes
1.     Pi, or the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, is what has been known as an irrational number or infinite non-repeating decimal, of which the first digits are 3.1415926536 …. A value of 3.14 is close enough for our purposes. Return to text.

4.     Adapted from reference 3. An NIV footnote (not part of the inspired text) to 1 Kings 7:26 suggests that the vessel had a greater volume than the above figures allow. This could indicate that the vessel may have been shaped more like a lily than imagined (i.e. part of it may have been bulbous), or that the conversion factor used by the NIV commentator was incorrect. Return to text.
5.     Some have suggested that there is one other explanation that fits all the dimensions given in the biblical text, if the circumference measured refers to the inside of the vessel. (This is a possibility, although, as already stated, it was most likely the external circumference which was measured.) The diameter was 10 cubits or 4.50 metres, the circumference was 30 cubits or 13.50 metres, and the walls were ‘a hand breadth thick’ (verse 26) or 10 centimetres (to the nearest centimetre).6 If the diameter of 4.50 metres was the outside measurement, we subtract 10 centimetres x 2 (to allow for the thickness of the wall on either side) to arrive at a figure of 4.30 metres for the internal diameter of the vessel, and we can now calculate the internal circumference using the formula:
circumference = diameter

= 4.3 metres x 3.14
= 13.50 metres
= 30 cubits
which is exactly the figure given in 1 Kings 7:23. But as shown, there is no need to resort to this solution. Return to text.

Kung may Biblia kayo, basahin ninyo ang... - MATEO 5:17-20 Foundation | FacebookJust like the people the psalmist wrote about, we still value tangible objects rather than intangible realities.
Rather than taking pride in our materialism, Christ’s followers would do well to invest in the things we cannot see: spiritual growth, salvation, investing our time and finances in building God’s kingdom and spending time with others.

We ought to be about His work more than our own.
Those who spend their time obtaining tangible objects are as foolish and empty as the idols themselves.
