Death did its best to hold Jesus in the tomb, but it failed — and death cannot hold anyone who confesses Christ as Lord. The gospel is the power of love over the forces of hatred. Love sent a Savior down from heaven into the earth, and showed us that our lives are so valuable to God that He sent a sinless substitute to pay the penalty for our sin and redeem us to God for eternity. Of course, the gospel message has as its centerpiece the cross of Christ. That is certainly good news! No wonder Paul said that the gospel was the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes - “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. For it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” - One of the characteristics that most people think of about God is that He is omnipotent — all-powerful. Creation naturally reveals His omnipotence, especially as we consider the forces at work that created the worlds and all that is in them, and that hold them in their places throughout the universe. But there is an even greater power at work than displayed in any of the natural forces of the world. It is the redemptive power that we see every time a sinner bows his knee at the foot of the cross and receives Jesus as Savior. The power of the gospel of Christ is the power of light over darkness.

One of the characteristics that most people think of about God is that He is omnipotent — all-powerful.

Creation naturally reveals His omnipotence, especially as we consider the forces at work that created the worlds and all that is in them, and that hold them in their places throughout the universe.

But there is an even greater power at work than displayed in any of the natural forces of the world.

Regardless of how dark it is, the light of a tiny candle can overcome it — how much more the searchlight of the gospel message?

The gospel is the power of life over death.

Death did its best to hold Jesus in the tomb, but it failed — and death cannot hold anyone who confesses Christ as Lord.

The gospel is the power of love over the forces of hatred.

Love sent a Savior down from heaven into the earth, and showed us that our lives are so valuable to God that He sent a sinless substitute to pay the penalty for our sin and redeem us to God for eternity.

Of course, the gospel message has as its centerpiece the cross of Christ.

As I mentioned in my book The Cross: One Man… One Tree… One Friday: “The cross is the hinge-point of human history. It is the fulcrum of God’s grand, brilliant lever — four thousand years in the crafting — that in a single day pried a fallen world from Satan’s soul-killing grasp.”

That is certainly good news!

No wonder Paul said that the gospel was the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes!

Lord, Jesus, today is Your day, and I want Your will to be done.

So, whatever happens, hold my hand and let's face it together.
