ADVERSITY IN LIFE - Adversity in life is something each and every one of us has to contend with. God has a solution for any problem you may be facing today. Adversity in life will escort you all the way to the door of victory.

But if you allow yourself to give up, cave in and quit when adversity in life rears its ugly head, you’ll never come to know how sweet your victories can be.

God has a solution for any problem you may be facing today.

Make a quality decision to overcome your circumstances with the Word of God and determination.

God knew that you would be exactly where you are today.

Your situation didn’t catch Him off guard. He’s already made a way of escape.

Your job is to keep your feet firmly planted in God’s Word until you see the finished works of Jesus Christ come to pass in your life.

Adversity in life is something each and every one of us has to contend with.

It doesn’t matter what you’re endeavoring to do. Adversity in life will accompany you all the way to victory’s doorstep.

Disney is a name that is known worldwide.

Disney sets a standard of excellence in everything that it touches.

However, not many know the adversity that Walt Disney had to overcome on opening day at Disneyland.

Whether or not Walt Disney wished upon a star, his dreams were about to come true.

Nearly half of the United States gathered around black-and-white televisions on July 17, 1955.

After more than two decades of planning and a breakneck year of construction, the Mickey Mouse creator had transformed a 160-acre orange grove in Anaheim, California, into a $17 million theme park — Disneyland.

Black Sunday at the Happiest Place on Earth

Everything appeared to be unfolding like a dream.

But away from the television cameras, Disneyland’s opening day was more like a nightmare.

Like many Disney productions, the live broadcast was fantasy, not reality.

Adversity in life will escort you all the way to the door of victory.

But if you allow yourself to give up, cave in and quit when adversity rears its ugly head, you’ll never come to know how sweet your victories can be.

Disneyland’s opening day was supposed to be an invitation-only affair, and not open to the general public.

Tickets were mailed out only to special guests.

However, scores of counterfeit tickets surfaced on opening day.

Disneyland was only expecting about 15,000 guests in total, but more than 28,000 people entered the park.

In addition to the counterfeit tickets, some enterprising young man took advantage of the grand opening and set up a ladder outside one of the park’s fences.

He charged $5 per person to climb it and sneak inside the park.

Traffic Backed Up For Miles

Disneyland and the city of Anaheim were not prepared for the amount of people that showed up for opening day.

The freeway that led into the park was backed up for miles. The traffic essentially shut down the freeway for hours.

In fact, people were in their cars for so long that when they finally made it to Disneyland, there were reports of families taking restroom breaks in the parking lot.

Wet Paint, Weeds and Disappointed Children

Workers were still in the process of painting structures and planting trees all over the park.

Along the Canal Boats of the World, weeds had yet to be removed from the riverbanks.

With no time to landscape the area, Walt Disney simply added signs with Latin plant names printed on them to make it look like they were meant to be there.

No Food, No Drinks and No Fun

There was a shortage of food and beverages in every restaurant and concession stand in the park.

Because of the unexpected influx of guests, virtually all food and drink inventory was wiped out within hours.

No Plumbing

While there were plenty of water fountains in the park, many of them were not working because of a plumbers’ strike during construction.

Walt Disney had to choose between working water fountains or working restrooms.

He picked the latter because he felt the toilets were more important.

Walt said, “Well, you know they could drink Coke and Pepsi, but they can’t pee in the streets. Finish the restrooms.”

Scorching Temperatures

Although Walt Disney had no control over the weather, it contributed to the disastrous opening day as well.

Temperatures reached an intense 100 degrees, which was unbearable in a park without working water fountains.

The day was so hot that the fresh asphalt became like a sticky tar.

Guests complained that they were getting their shoes and high heels stuck in the pavement on Main Street, U.S.A.

Broken Down Rides

Many workers toiled around the clock to meet Walt Disney’s grand opening deadline.

Both Disney Imagineers and construction workers rushed to complete the theme park.

As a result, a number of rides — including Peter Pan’s Flight, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant in Fantasyland — broke down or were closed altogether because they simply were not finished yet.

The growing pains didn’t stop on opening day.

During the first few weeks after opening, the stagecoach ride in Frontierland permanently closed when it was discovered it would flip over if it was too top-heavy.

36 cars in Autopia crashed due to aggressive driving and a tiger and a panther escaped from the circus attraction and got into a fight on Main Street, U.S.A.

The Mark Twain Riverboat Sank

The iconic Mark Twain Riverboat in Frontierland was filled way over capacity on opening day, with about 500 people cramming into the attraction.

This caused the boat to go off its track and sink in the mud, but the ordeal was far from over.

Once back on its track, when the boat pulled up to the landing, all the passengers rushed to the side to get off, and the boat tipped into the water again.

Everyone had to wade through the water to disembark.

Sleeping Beauty’s Castle Almost Caught Fire

A gas leak in the park prompted the closing of Adventureland, Fantasyland, and Frontierland for a few hours, while flames from the leak were seen trying to engulf Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.

Meager Beginnings Don’t Have Dictate the Final Word in Your Life

If anyone deserved the opportunity to walk away from a venture discouraged, it could have been Walt Disney.

However, we all know that the disastrous opening day that’s known as “Black Sunday” in Disney circles did not dictate the course of Walt Disney and Disneyland.

Adversity in Life Will Escort You To The Door of Victory

As I said to open this message, adversity in life will escort you all the way to the door of victory.

But if you allow yourself to give up, cave in and quit when adversity in life rears its ugly head, you’ll never come to know how sweet your victories can be.

I’d like to encourage you today to become a world overcomer.

Hello all, and thank you for visiting FaithsMessenger.Com! My name is Greg Winfield and I’m writing to you from sunny Southern California.

I’m the proud husband of Samantha. Father to Jackie, Jonathan, and Jennifer. Stepfather to DJ and Jordan, and grandpa to Kylie and Ethan. To the Glory of God, all of our children are happy, healthy, and independent.

My wife and I are quickly becoming empty nesters. With only 1 more left at home, we’re muddling through how to navigate this season of our lives.

The Word Of God Becomes Real

I received Christ as my Lord and Savior back in August 1983 in San Antonio Park, Long Beach CA. I was on my lunch break (I’ve got a funny story behind the day I received the Lord posted below). Since that time, my life has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs. But through it all, the blessing of the Lord has shown through in every area of my life.

The purpose of this blog is simply to share the Word of God in the unique way that He shares it with me. I tend to look at life through parables and life analogies. There are so many things that we experience on a daily basis that run parallel to principles in God’s Word.

Many times when these life experiences are pointed out, the lightbulb comes on and the Word of God becomes alive to those who have shared similar experiences.

My prayer is that I’ll be able to transcribe those life experiences onto these pages and share messages that will come alive in your spirit.
