IF CHRIST HAD
NOT COME...
12 THINGS THAT WOULD NOT BE
By Dr. Don Sisk
1. We would not have Christmas — no celebration
of the Saviour and cherished time with family.
2. We would have never heard of the Christians
who have influenced the world. Paul would have remained a cruel Pharisee.
Peter, James, and John would have died as simple fisherman. Mary would have
been the wife of a carpenter, but nothing more. Thousands of pastors, including
your own, would be unknown to most, and their ministry of blessing and comfort
to thousands unfulfilled.
3. There would be no churches. Can you imagine a
city — the whole world — without a single church for fellowship, restoration,
and worship?
4. There would be no New Testament. The
Scriptures would be promises unfulfilled, the mystery of the church unrevealed,
and the joy of the New Covenant unknown.
5. Your sins would not be forgiven. The weight
of sin would be an endless burden and a death sentence.
6. There would be no Christian writings to
comfort us — neither song nor poem about the blessings of Christ would calm our
fears in storms of trials.
7. There would be no Gospel — no good news — to
share with the world. What is good in a message of works and condemnation?
8. Without a Gospel, there would be no missions
programs. No missionaries would bring the Good News and transform lives around
globe.
9. There would be no hope of the
Resurrection. Death would only hold fear and torment instead of rest.
10. Most of the institutions of higher learning would not
exist. Princeton, Harvard, and so many other universities were founded to
educate preachers of the Gospel.
11. Most hospitals would not exist. The people and
institutions would not be touched by the compassion of Christ which provokes
them to help others.
12. There would be no YMCA, Red Cross, orphanages, or
thousands of other organizations who exist simply to assist those with no one
to help them. There would be no one to care for the widows and fatherless.
Would
anyone wish to live in a world without Christ?
The
change Christ made in and through the lives of believers everywhere is
incalculable.
Thank
God that Christ did come, He died yet still lives, and one day, He is coming
again.
