Luke 21:25 - “There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars. On the earth,
nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the
sea.”
Explanation and Commentary on Luke 21:25
We love to read Revelation concerning the coming of the Lord Jesus
Christ and the end time. It talks concisely on the things that will happen at
the end of days.
John wasn’t the only one who wrote about the end time and what
will happen when the son of man, Jesus Christ, is about to come the second
time.
Luke wrote about it when Jesus Himself was talking to His
disciples.
In Luke 21:7, the disciples of Jesus became curious and wanted to
know more about the end time. “’Teacher,’ they asked, ‘when will these
things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?’”
“There will be signs in the sun.”
What could Jesus mean by this phrase “signs in the sun?”
What could Jesus mean by this phrase “signs in the sun?”
Could the phrase be figurative or literally? That is the question.
The answer is that it is both. According to Jesus, signs coming
from the sun means changes.
There will be changes that are evident to the people. The sun is
what people can see and if the sun gives a sign, everyone will see it.
The kind of change that Jesus was saying here could represent
different things. These include doctrines changing and moral standards being
compromised.
On the literal part of the phrase, the sun will indeed give a sign
as it will be turned to darkness.
The same thing goes for the moon and the stars. All will be
changed.
Peter mentioned this too in the following verse.
Acts 2:20 - “The sun will be turned to darkness and the
moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.”
“On earth, there will be anguish.”
There is no doubt the earth will go through this.
There is no doubt the earth will go through this.
Anguish mean pains, it could be physical or mental.
Anguish is not only on the physical part of the body, but people
could also feel pain and suffering on the spiritual part too.
“Perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.”
This is figurative, it means there will be things happening on
earth that will pass the human understanding and will not be able to
comprehend.
