GRAVITATIONAL PROPERTIES OF CONSTELLATIONS - Science in the Bible - In the last century astrophysicists have discovered that the stars of Pleiades move in unison with each other, and are thus gravitationally bound. They have also discovered that the stars of Orion are free agents that are not gravitationally bound! Interestingly, the three stars that comprise Orion's belt appear to be closer together than the outer stars in the constellation, but are actually farther apart! (they appear closer together because of the 2-D plane we see them in).

God asked Job “Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion?” (Job 38:31).
In the last century astrophysicists have discovered that the stars of Pleiades move in unison with each other, and are thus gravitationally bound.
“Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?” Job 38:31 (King James Version)
Hebrew word for bind” is “qushar” this is a prime root word meaning to tie as together, gird confine, compact, to link. i.e. hold together in unity tie them together. As in hold with gravity!
Hebrew word used and translated “sweet”; “ma-adannah” meaning a bond or group influence and taken from a root word anad, meaning to lace or fasten, tie together.
The next word used was “influences” and this is the same root word used for “sweet” being “ma-adannah.”
Obviously the translator was confused by this double word usage but in fact it was implied and made perfect as follows;
“Can you hold together the group influence or fasten the Pleiades? “
Let’s continue with the rest of this verse shall we!
The word “loose” is the Hebrew word “pathach” this is a prim root word meaning to loosen, begin, carve out, break forth, draw out engrave, beset, ungird.
The word “bands” in Hebrew is “mowshekah” this word is contrived from another root but can mean something drawing, i.e. as a belt or cord in the figurative sense the prime word is “mashak” meaning to draw, used in a great variety of applications, to sound, to sow, form, created bonds, prolong, develop, remove, continue, stretch out!
So what do we have here in this verse once we gain a better understanding?
Let’s take a look at what is implied here in this last part of the verse shall we?
“Or carve out the created bonds of Orion?”
So once you put this together you have the verse that reads;
“Can you hold together the group influence or fasten the Pleiades? “
“Or carve out the created bonds of Orion?”
See the other translations for clarity below
1. *Job 38:31 (English Standard Version)
"Can you bind the chains of(A) the Pleiades or loose the cords of Orion?
2. *Job 38:31 (Contemporary English Version)
“Can you arrange stars in groups such as Orion and the Pleiades?”
3. *Job 38:31 (Amplified Bible)
“Can you bind the chains of [the cluster of stars called] Pleiades, or loose the cords of [the constellation] Orion?”
4. * Job 38:31 (New International Version)
"Can you bind the beautiful [a] Pleiades? Can you loose the cords of Orion?
5. * Job 38:31 (New Living Translation)
“Can you direct the movement of the stars -- binding the cluster of the Pleiades or loosening the cords of Orion?”
6. * Job 38:31 (Young's Literal Translation)
“Dost thou bind sweet influences of Kimah? Or the attractions of Kesil dost thou open?”
They have also discovered that the stars of Orion are free agents that are not gravitationally bound!
Interestingly, the three stars that comprise Orion's belt appear to be closer together than the outer stars in the constellation, but are actually farther apart! (they appear closer together because of the 2-D plane we see them in).
