DANCING BEFORE THE LORD - ‘Why this waste of perfume?’ If Mark’s story of Mary’s “waste” means anything at all, it suggests that our love for Jesus may express itself in ways that others find uncomfortable. A year’s wages were involved in Mary’s anointing. It was an “unwise” act that invited the disciples’ scorn. But Jesus commended her for her act of devotion - Jesus saw the love that prompted her action despite what some would consider the impractical nature of it. Different forms of worship — informal, formal, quiet, exuberant — represent a sincere outpouring of love for Jesus - He’s worthy of all worship that comes from a heart of love - Mark 13 ends with Jesus urging His disciples, and everyone, to be awake rather than asleep when He returns. Into the account of those who are conspiring to get rid of Jesus Mark inserts the story of a woman who honors His approaching death. “Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, ‘Why this waste of perfume?’” In the spirit of her affections, she was awake even if she didn’t consciously know that she was foreshadowing Jesus’ suffering. A group of religious leaders were clueless to the fact that in the secrecy of their murderous plans, they, along with Judas, were about to betray and demand the crucifixion of their long-awaited Savior. Two days before the Jewish feasts of Passover and Unleavened Bread, they were sleeping in what Jesus had called the “yeast” of hypocrisy.

WHY YOUR DEEP FRUSTRATIONS ARE A SIGN GOD WILL USE YOU MIGHTILY - Desperate hunger from God can test us to the maximum - we look for signs that our hunger will be fulfilled. Desperate hunger is a great gift - although, when you first get it, you will be convinced you are being punished. Your deep frustrations are a sign that God is going to use you mightily - because they create desperate hunger - God is carving out your soul to create a greater capacity for His power - God is creating special kinds of people to be used in special kinds of ways. We picture bold, assertive, natural born leaders taking the stage. We assume the Holy Spirit would instill great confidence and audacity in those He has selected for special service. In fact, the opposite is true. He inflicts those He chooses with deep frustrations. They are restless, they are weakened by confusing emotions. Often, they don’t feel very spiritual at all. The greatest gift He gives them is a desperate hunger. In fact, your deep frustrations are a sign that God is going to use you mightily… because they create desperate hunger. Yes, desperate hunger is a great gift. Although, when you first get it, you will be convinced you are being punished not blessed. You are getting desperate for something — your appetite for that one thing is increasing. It seems cruel but it makes perfect sense: God wants you to want something you can’t have. It is in the not having it, that your desire intensifies.
LET’S LIFT UP JESUS - Jesus is Lord. We are his body — his hands of compassion, his heart of mercy, and his voice of tenderness. So, let's lift up Jesus — not just by telling others about him, but serving others as his presence in the world.
BAAL-PERAZIM – LORD OF THE BREAKTHROUGH - David describes the breakthrough like “the breakthrough of water.” He also gave all the credit to the Lord. This is the first restoration for the land. The land now has been prepared for the influence of the kingdom of heaven. Secondly, he destroyed the Philistine idols. Each of us releases a sound that beckons the kingdom of heaven. The reality is that there are more of us than there are of them for we are of the kingdom of heaven. The sound in us can change a whole dimensional realm of existence. We can join with the kingdom of heaven.

JESUS THE CORNERSTONE - The Stone that the Builders Rejected Became the Cornerstone - No stone was more important than the cornerstone because the integrity of the whole structure depended on the cornerstone containing exactly the right lines. If the cornerstone was not exactly right, the entire building would be out of line.
