Prayer:

Father, thank you for the freedom that you’ve given me through Christ.

The freedom to be who I am in your presence.

Forgive me for my trying to please you through my works. For this does not please you at all.

Instead, shine your light and love into my heart and give me fresh revelation and understanding of what Jesus has already done.

Help me to live in such a way that my faith in Christ is all that matters.

I now receive the life of freedom you’ve so graciously gifted me.

Additional Thoughts:

Almost from the beginning there has been forces at work within Christianity that try to destroy the good news of salvation.

Such forces that deny the work of Jesus Christ at Calvary and instead proclaim that one’s salvation is dependent upon what we do or don’t do.

In short, God’s favour is earned by good works and good behaviour. If our righteousness could be achieved this way, then wouldn’t Christ’s death have been in vain and the grace of God made obsolete?

‘You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.’ - Galatians 4:10-11

Paul expressed great concern for the church in Galatia who were turning back to those weak and miserable principles that kept them enslaved.

He feared all his instruction had been a wasted effort. Freedom, Paul said, is found not in the works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ.
