Not Home Yet
the aging process is one reminder of that truth
Gail Burton Purath
Life
and aging...
At
35, my immune system collapsed, followed by 5 years of flu-like symptoms and 30
years of low energy levels.
I’ve
had stomach issues for over 20 years, including ulcers.
At
55 I had severe food poisoning which caused some minor life-long health
problems (The Very Hairs of Your Head).
At
58, I broke my ankle, and a few years later I tore my PCL, both while doing
Christian work overseas (Spiritual
Atrophy).
In
the last few years, I've developed dry eye, dry mouth, some hearing loss, and
some foot problems.
However,
at a recent doctor's appointment, the physician told me I was healthier than
most people my age.
Life
reminds us that our world is fallen.
But
the good news is this: We're not home yet.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly
we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our
light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far
outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is
unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians
4:16-18
But
one day we will have perfect bodies and perfect souls and we'll spend our days
with Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:1-10; Revelation
21:1-4).
Finally,
we'll be home!
Gail
Hi! I'm Gail Burton Purath. I started
Bible Love Notes to give people a minute of Scriptural encouragement in their
busy day.
I don't have all the answers,
but
since I asked Christ to be my
Lord and Savior in 1974, I've been learning from the One Who has all the
answers!
I'm still a sinner, a learner,
a student who falls down and disappoints God at times. But it's my desire to
grow closer to the Lord, day by day, minute by minute.
I need to be challenged,
encouraged, corrected and comforted, and I think you do as well...so let's
learn together about the love of God--a love that is so vast that we will
always be discovering new and wonderful things about it.
